Our History
Arora Hospital’s journey began in 1984 as Lanka Medicare, when the institution was founded by Professor Rezvi Sheriff, one of the most respected nephrologists in Sri Lanka.
In 1985, Lanka Medicare formed a historic public private partnership with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Colombo. Through this collaboration, Sri Lanka’s first kidney transplant was successfully performed on 5 October 1985, with a surgical team from the University of Colombo.
In 1995, Lanka Medicare evolved into Western Hospital. Today, the institution has been rebranded as Arora Hospital, continuing its legacy as a pioneer in kidney transplantation and dialysis services in Sri Lanka.
Arora Hospital has also played a significant role in medical tourism, welcoming international patients seeking specialized renal care.
Over the past decades, Arora Hospital has achieved several important milestones in healthcare, particularly in kidney care and specialized medical services in Sri Lanka.
